9th October 1849. Dr Claudius Galen Wheelhouse (1826-1909). In 1849-1850 while accompanying Lord Lincoln's yachting party as official surgeon, Wheelhouse made calotypes of Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean. He took photographs in Spain, Portugal, Egypt, Palestine, and Greece where he photographed views of Athens and the Acropolis.

Railway accident at Little Salkeld, July 1933

Wreckage of carriages damaged in a railway accident at Little Salkeld station on the Settle to Carlisle line, 10 July 1933. The London, Midland & Scottish Railway's Carlisle to London express was derailed when it hit three wagons which had been mistakenly shunted across its path. The driver of the freight train was killed and 35 passengers and staff injured. A broken door has been used as a ramp to evacuate casualties from the carriages. On the floor of the carriage lie broken teapots and bottles.

Midland Railway Class 1, 4-4-0 steam locomotive number 1672. Built Derby 1884. Renewed in 1896; renumbered as number. 488 in 1907; renewed as 483 in 1912. Withdrawn in December 1950.
