EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the dramatic moment when Flight Lieutenant Joseph Singleton's Mosquito II gun camera caught the end of a Ju88C aircraft from KG 40 on June 11,1943. Leading a squadron of five Mosquitos over the Bay of Biscay, Singleton and his comrades unexpectedly encountered an equal number of formidable Ju88s. The ensuing battle was intense, resulting in the destruction of one enemy aircraft and damaging two others. Taken in July 1943 during World War II, this image showcases the bravery and skill exhibited by Royal Air Force pilots like Singleton who served in Coastal Command. In this dogfight above France, these courageous aviators risked their lives to defend Europe against Luftwaffe aggression. The black-and-white composition evokes a sense of nostalgia for those tumultuous times in the forties when conflict dominated global affairs. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by military personnel during WWII. Memory Lane Prints presents this historical snapshot as part of its collection dedicated to preserving moments from our past.
