Boilers in the erecting shop at Horwich works. This shop was used for putting together and repairing locomotives, and was well equipped with electrical machinery. Horwich works opened in 1886 as the locomotive works for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. This Railway Works mainly built and repaired locomotives, but they also made telegraph and signalling equipment
