Alexander Alexandrovich Arkhangelsky (left, 1892-1978), and Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev (1888-1972), Soviet aviation engineers, talking at an airfield. Arkhangelsky was Tupolevs deputy at the Tupolev aircraft design bureau from 1941 onwards. Tupolev pioneered aircraft design in the Soviet Union, overseeing the development of more than 100 models of aircraft. These included the Tu-4 and Tu-95 bombers, and the Tu-104, the worlds second jet airliner.
