The Tay Bridge, BR poster, 1957

Poster produced for British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to and within Scotland. The poster shows a locomotive travelling over the Tay Bridge, with the waters of the Firth of Tay streching out on either side. To produce the preliminary drawings for this painting, the diesel locomotive and train were posed for the artist. Winds of up to 40mph blew through the girders of the Tay Bridge as he sketched the scene. Artwork by Terence Cuneo, son of the artists Cyrus and Nell Cuneo. He studied at the Chelsea and Slade Art Schools and in addition to a long career designing railway posters, he also painted portraits (including royal portraits) and ceremonial and military subjects

Edinburgh: The Scott Monument, BR poster, c 1950s

Poster produced for British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to Edinburgh. The poster shows a view of the Scott Monument in Prince's Street Gardens. The monument is dedicated to Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) and was officially inaugurated in August 1846. It is over 200 feet high and was designed and built by George Miekle Kemp. Artwork by Claude Buckle, who originally trained as an architect but turned to fine art in 1928. He painted in both oil and watercolour and was a prolific poster artis for the Great Western Railway (GWR) as well as BR. Much of his original poster artwork is held at the National Railway Museum. Gleneagles Hotel, LMS poster, 1924-1947

Poster produced for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Perthshire, Scotland. The poster shows a view of the Gleneagles Hotel seen across the famous golf course. The Gleneagles Hotel was built with its own railway station by the Caledonian Railway Company, and when it opened in 1924, it was described as a Riviera in the Highlands'. It became a fashionable high society holiday destination. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) and Southern Railway (SR)
