Melrose Abbey, LNER/LMS poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Melrose Abbey, Scottish Borders. The abbey was founded around 1136 by David I and was almost destroyed during the Wars of Independence. The ruins, which are predominantly fifteenth-century, are considered to be among the finest in Scotland. Artwork by Fred Taylor, who was commissioned in 1930 to design four ceiling paintings for the Underwriting Room at Lloyd's and murals for Reed's Lacquer Room. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and other London galleries and worked for LNER, London Transport and several shipping companies

Poster produced for the Great Northern Railway, North Eastern Railway and North British Railway, to promote tourist and weekend tickets from King's Cross, London, to Glasgow, where the Glasgow International Exhibition was being held. The exhibition, which ran from May to November 1901, displayed examples of great advances made in industry, science and art. Inverness, LMS/LNER poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced for Londom, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) and London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The poster shows a view of Inverness, with the sunset reflected in the waters of the River Ness. A funnel of smoke from a steam train is visible in the distance. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson, who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) and Southern Railway (SR) and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924.
