Inverness, LMS/LNER poster, 1923-1947
Poster produced for Londom, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) and London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The poster shows a view of Inverness, with the sunset reflected in the waters of the River Ness. A funnel of smoke from a steam train is visible in the distance. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson, who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) and Southern Railway (SR) and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924. The Booklovers Britain: The Trossachs, LNER poster, 1927
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway to promote rail travel to The Trossachs in the Scottish Highlands. The poster promotes the area in connection with the clansman and outlaw, Rob Roy Macgregor (1671-1734). The image shows Macgregor's men preparing to ambush the military, beside Loch Katrine. Artwork by Austin Cooper, a Canadian who studied art in Cardiff and Arbroath. He began his career as a commercial artist in Montreal, but returned to London in 1922 and designed posters for LNER, Indian State Railways and London Transport. His first show was held at the London Gallery in 1948. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 635 mm

Western Highlands, LNER/LMS poster, c 1935
Poster produced jointly by London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to the Western Highlands in Scotland. The poster shows a striking view of Loch Long, with mountains rising up on either side. The mountains are reflected in the water's calm surface, and a boat is visible in the middle of the loch. Artwork by E W Haslehust (1866-1949), who studied at the Slade Art School. A watercolour and landscape painter, he exhibited widely and is best remembered for his illustration of the Beautiful Britain series of books. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 1270 mm
