Clacton-on-Sea, LNER poster, 1926
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Clacton in Essex. The poster shows people sitting on deck chairs on a balcony which overlooks the beach. Artwork by Henry George Gawthorn (1879-1941), who started out as an architect but later turned to pictorial art. He wrote several books on poster design and publicity and produced posters for LNER. He often included a self-portrait in his posters, complete with pince-nez and a panama hat. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 1270 mm
