The poster, produced for British Railways (BR), transports us back to a time when elegance and pageantry were held in high regard. The focal point of this image is the magnificent neo-gothic building that houses the Law Courts. Designed by George Edmund Street, this 19th century architectural masterpiece serves as a backdrop to one of London's most important annual events - the investiture of the Lord Mayor. In this scene, we witness the new mayor making his way through a bustling crowd in a ceremonial gold coach built over two centuries ago. This opulent carriage symbolizes both power and tradition as it carries its occupant to seek approval from the courts and swear allegiance to the monarch.
